Course Description:

This course presents family theories most often used by human service workers as the framework for understanding how to work with various family constellations and concerns. Students will learn how theory and practice can be used in the development of family/worker collaboration and application of family-centered practice. Students will learn the history of systems theory and understand the influence of family systems on the development of problem behaviors. Students will learn and practice skills for empowering families to assess their strengths, concerns, and priorities and to make a plan to meet their needs and resolve their own problems.
